So I was visiting Boston last week, riding the T on the Green line, when I had a chance encounter with the T’s DJ, “DJ Nitetrain”. Have you ever run into this fellow, Paul?

Excellent. I don’t ride the T that often…this is the first time I’ve seen/heard of him. Does the jolly fellow beg for money or does he just enjoy spinning air discs?

No begging for money, he’s just in his own little world. He’ll pull out a disc, say something like “aw… this is a NASTY little record” and then pretend to scratch it for awhile and boogie away. When his stop came up, he just picked up his bags and took off into the night.

I’m kind of pissed at the beggers around here. They’re so aggressive, constantly pestering you anytime you try to go in or out of the door at CVS and 7-11. DJ Nitetrain’s got a great gimmick, and it’s made better by the fact that he asks for nothing.

Yeah, I was pretty taken aback by the scene in downtown Cambridge. Having visited New York recently - where I don’t recall a single person asking me for change - seeing the flock of mentally ill and homeless around Central Sq. was a bit of a shock.

As a boston resident who sees DJ Nitetrain from time to time, I can’t help but cheer him on a little bit. He’s having a great time, and that’s awesome. Also, as a DJ myself, everything that is doing in the air is something that most of us do when cue-ing up a record for a mix. I think if we saw him on real turntables, he’d know what he’s doing, and have some good tracks. He does smell like a bag full of assholes though…
